Track Name: Goodbye California
Soon the wheels will turn and I’ll be gone
On my own in the great unknown is where I belong
And soon, out my window I’ll look down
At this city’s floor of highways while the turbines turn me round

Goodbye California, the way is so clear
I’m gonna fly the Midwest sky and watch tall buildings disappear
All that lies beyond ever pulls me on
Goodbye California

Dreams can take me far, far away
To summer nights when we would ride under blankets of stars
But memories just crackle more each time they play
I’m gonna need some new LPs for my aching heart

Goodbye California, your gates can’t hold me
I’m gonna steal the steering wheel and never brake ’til I’ve broken free
All that lies beyond ever pulls me on
Goodbye California

Soon I’ll find the hour is my last
And streets and houses and friends and names will join my past
And even with wings unfolding in my soul
I find this nest is hard to leave without one last farewell

Goodbye California, you’re part of my core
Down twisting roads on sunny coasts I’ll kiss your blue skies once more
All that lies beyond ever pulls me on
Goodbye California
But once in every while, I’ll look back and smile
Goodbye California
Track Name: Still Friends
I miss the night when you said do you love me?
I miss sharing secrets with you and the moon
I miss getting by only on nighttime whispers
I miss thinking things would just get better soon

I want you back; I’m still so in love
I feel like I never had you enough
I’ll try to stop wishing to hold you again
But whatever may come, you know I’m still your friend

I miss the warmth of your hand on my shoulder
In the times you were there for me, times all too rare
I don’t miss waiting and I don’t miss heartache
‘Cause how can I miss things that I’ve got right here?

I want you back; I'm still so in love
But I'm alongside you, just dealing with breaking up
I can stop needing to hold you again
But I can't help but love you, and that will never end
Track Name: Catch You One More Time
Sizzling evening you
At some venue bringing standards into life
Scarlet sunset you
Serenade the dusk with fingers light and lithe
I have fallen, swooning in the music
Just to land in your hat
Now I’m nestled deep in trouble
Now there’s no going back

’Cause when the whole world falls away from the black stage of a peaceful night
And we are two lone stars in the moon’s gentle spotlight
Then the notes you softly play into my arms are just yours and mine
And at last my heart relives how sweet it is to catch you one more time

Rushing daytime you
Catch a breath, and then you’re gigging somewhere else
Tired noontime you
A little drained from all this giving of yourself
Makes me sorry, trying to catch a songbird
That never gets to fly free
But still I feel I’ve done something good
When I’ve got you close to me

’Cause then the whole world falls away from the black stage of a peaceful night
And we are two lone stars in the moon’s tender limelight
And the songs you softly sing into my skin are just yours and mine
As at last my heart relives how sweet it is to catch you one more time

Sleepy morning you
Wake up looking like a cherub with those curls
Golden twilight you
Walking softly slowly with me through the world
I remember every little sweet thing
As the train pulls me home
And I’ll be thinking of you always
’Til the time finally comes

When the whole world falls away from the black stage of a peaceful night
And we are two lone stars in the moon’s gentle spotlight
And the words you softly say into my ears are just yours and mine
As at last my heart relives how sweet it is to catch you one more time
One more time my heart recalls that bliss
How sweet it is to catch you one more time
Track Name: You Never Cried
How you always were smiling, I really never knew
Until I was heading home from my last time with you
I’d been longing to hear love songs and confessions of pain
And I’d finally found them in your smiling face

The tears you never cried
Were falling from my eyes
And all down the highway
All I thought was goodbye
Left you shining like a star
In our southwestern sky
With your brightness untarnished
By the tears you never cried

The tune that was playing one night we drove through downtown
Made the words I’d thought of saying seem like meaningless sounds
And I wondered, seeing your name scroll across the stereo,
If those long aching harmonies spoke of more than I could know

The tears you never cried
Were falling from my eyes
And all down the highway
All I knew was goodbye
Left you shining like a star
In our southwestern sky
With your brightness untarnished
By the tears you never cried

Once I loved a craftsman of fine melodies
Whose youth all was given to black and white keys
I’d wished that I could be as beautiful as the music you penned
Now I know I didn’t need to just to be your friend

(chorus)

Left you shining like a star
In our southwestern sky
With my cheeks softly stinging
From the tears you never cried
Track Name: Snowflake
I am holding in my hands a scintillating piece
With a thousand hidden facets and surprising intricacies
But snowflakes in my hand most often fade away
I’d love to know what must possess this pretty one to stay

We’re finding forever
While a world of branches and snow
And people in scarves and Christmas lights
encloses us together
Stay, my darling, stay with me
For you’re a better find
Than the finest crystal
falling from the sky tonight

You’re the best and brightest wonder in this winterland
Makes me feel like such a lucky fool to hold you in my hands
But I might become the lover I aspire so much to be
If I can walk love’s snowy road with you alongside me

(chorus, coda)
Track Name: Hallmark Holiday
The people printed on heavy card stock
Have come to life this winter night
They’ve peeled off the paper to sit in the restaurants
Still lost in each other’s eyes

May it last forever
And long outlive my quiet pain
May no heart be tethered
To a passing Hallmark holiday

The pictures of us painted in my mind
Were never finished with photo gloss
And the roses on sale won’t help convince me
It’s better those dreams were lost

So let the wind caress me
And I’ll be nestled in the cold white weather
Let the night come kiss me
Here on this bench we can grow old together

Hallmark is closed, so I stare through the glass
At a hundred brightly colored hearts
They’re inscribed with the same wish and cut to match
They’re nothing at all like ours

May they last forever
And may their message never fade away
May the love they deliver
Outlive this Hallmark holiday
May it someday find me
And take my longing all away
May it never bind me
To a passing Hallmark holiday
Track Name: (Open Up) Buttercup
Buttercup
Open up, buttercup
I need you to see
The beautiful spring

All the clouds have passed away
And the sun is aloft
Winter covered you up with ice
Why can't you let it melt off?

Buttercup
Look now, the sun is up
And you’ll never grow
If you never open up

The winter’s been long
But the spring is finally here
Let it melt your frozen tears
Buttercup

The seasons are changing
We lose, and again we find
You’re so afraid the light will fade
You won’t even watch it shine

Buttercup
Look now, the sun is up
And you’ll never grow
If you never open up

You need to get warm
After years of icy cold
May your little face once more glow gold
Buttercup
Track Name: Bicycle
Your bicycle stands by the trees with the falling leaves
And as I walk by, I feel what words could never say
Because the fact that I’ve met you
Keeps dawning on me each day

Your fingers are warm and your eyes look so young and wide
As you watch the stars and share your wonderment with me
And the wise old woman inside
Keeps saying we’re meant to be

Trees almost bare
Skies growing dark
Leaves in the air
New memories in my heart

Your fingers are warm and your eyes look so old and wise
As the sun sets and I can’t help but pull you close to me
And the little girl inside
Keeps saying we’re meant to be

Oh, rain pouring down
Days growing dark
Leaves on the ground
And summer plans in my heart

Your bicycle stands by the trees with the falling leaves
And as I walk by, I know you’ll always be with me
And the wise old woman inside
Keeps saying that we
were meant to be

(Oh, we were meant to be)
Track Name: The Only Lily
Don’t be gone yet, don’t be gone
With our time together still so young
I can’t pull goodbye from my heart so soon
Never thought I’d say these words to you

What a rare young beauty
You’re the only flower of your kind
What a gift to me
Dear one, I could not have said goodbye

I feel this pull to ask you please come back
And bring with you the joys we’ve had
But there’s nothing more I could ask from you
But to rest and take my gratitude

If I could have seen you
Still you would slip from my welling eyes
If I could have touched you
Still I wouldn’t know how to say goodbye
To such a rare young beauty
You’re the only lily of your kind
Such a gift to me
Dear one, I can hardly say goodbye

Lily, I can hardly say goodbye
Track Name: Yearbook
My old pal,

I just can’t stand it that tonight is our last--twelve hours left, not much to do, and anyway, you’re fading fast. So tomorrow when I’m on that train, I’ll think of you and pray that these few words I leave here recall to you our brightest days…’cause I don’t know how to tell you what you mean to me, so just remember that I won’t forget anything; and you always say let it be, so I’ll try not to cry getting on, but promise you’ll remember me when I’m gone.

If you look back, you’ll feel the Coronado sand we’ve had between our toes; you’ll hear the song of those sweet saxophones surrounding us on Cannery Row. You’ll see streetlights shine in our eyes, heading home in the dark; you’ll feel my sleepy head on your shoulder and the telltale beat of my heart.

And I don’t know how to tell you what you mean to me, so just remember that I don’t regret anything—and you always say let it be, let it be, so I’ll try not to cry moving on, but promise you’ll remember me when I’m gone.

And I hope when we meet again, no matter how long it may be, that you’ll still know how to smile with only your eyes at me. I could go through hundreds of yearbooks, but my hand is tuckered out, and you look about same on the couch, dreaming of I wonder what. When you take on my messy writing, what thoughts will fill your head? I tell myself, “No need to know.” I close your book and climb into bed.
