Dedicated to the victims and families of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, and to my generation.

lyrics

Let’s put these books down and go to the cafe
The more things that I learn, the more lost I feel anyway
That look on your face, what do the papers say?
The front page has quite a troublesome headline today

Somewhere beyond the horizon
Something like a shooting star fell before its time
Down from six miles over the sea
From the highest altitudes humankind has ever climbed
Not an albatross on its last wings
But a big grey machine coming apart
Where, where did they go,
And down through the darkness, could they still see the stars?

In other news, not much is new
We’ll have our diplomas soon, if that’s any comfort to you
But soon the industries that color our world grey will pull us in like turbines
We could stick to our guitars, but we might just be wasting our time
Before we thumb through classifieds we stop on the second page
Search and rescue’s at a loss seeking shrapnel in southern waves
All we know is that a couple hundred souls rode in that silver den
And all our funds and all our songs cannot give them life again

Somewhere beyond the horizon
Something like a shooting star fell before its time
Down from six miles over the sea
From the highest altitudes humankind has ever climbed
Not an albatross on its last wings
But a big grey machine coming apart
Where, where did we send you,
And down through the darkness, could you still see the stars?

Let's put these books down and just go outside
Feel the joy of our smallness in the vastness of the night
And though the sky planes above our heads seem so far removed from us,
We are one and the same cradled by forces we can’t touch

Right here in this country
There are millions of shooting stars littering the ground
You and I can reach for the sky
But our hands are not enough to keep the sky from falling down
We’re required by law to stay seated
In a big grey machine doomed from the start
Where, where are we going,
And on our way there, can we still touch the stars?

You who fell through the darkness, may you rest with the stars
